Birthday goodies!

I finally got a new camera for my birthday! WOOHOO! (Thanks babe ♥)
It's a Panasonic Lumix LZ20...

I also got a digital photography book to try and teach myself as much as I can and a large SD card so I don't have to worry about camera storage. I got jewellery, money, gift voucher, flowers, a plaque (about cats), a coaster, a lovely chunky cardigan and lots of cards. I got a balloon too! I've always wanted a balloon for those 'special' birthdays; and now I have one!

A few pics I've taken....

Time

Where has it gone? Time.  Where has it gone?

I remember my mum saying to me when I was a little girl “just wait until you’re older; time will fly!” boy she was right!

I’ve been reminiscing a lot lately. It’s probably due to the fact that my 40th birthday is just over a week away. Thinking about mum and dad. Remembering family times and holidays, mushroom picking, climbing trees and running through the long grass with Rinty our mongrel mutt. Christmases, tragedies and triumphs, spending my summer holidays in Skegness with my nana.  Being dependant on someone not having so much responsibility; something you know nothing about as a child, but looking back on it kinda makes you realise how much was done for you that went unappreciated.

I miss mum and dad.

I married young and eventually divorced and have four sons as a result. The eldest being 21 still amazes me. I don’t feel much older than that myself; mentally anyway. My ‘baby’ being almost 12. Again, where has time gone?!

Finding and marrying the love of my life and soul mate has to be one of the best experiences of my life.  I’m so lucky and thankful! Also for the family I’m now a part of; the family that treats me like their own without making me feel like the black sheep! I love them all.

There are things that I would change in my past but as I see it, if I changed one thing in my past would I still be where I am today? Probably not. I have made lots of poor decisions but there’s nothing I can do about it so there is no point wasting time with regrets.  There is no point wasting time on feeling bitter or hatred either.

I've learned that it's best to just look forward and do the best you can to get where you want to be, and treat people the way you expect to be treated and things should be OK. We have our goals and I look forward to them every day, trying to stay focused on them during the bad days especially. I know we’ll get there eventually!

Back to my looming birthday. I’ve never been one for having parties; I only recall one in my entire life when I was either 8 or 9. I don’t remember anything about it at all! Now this year is a milestone I guess and I have decided that I don’t want to let it slip by unnoticed. By unnoticed, I mean for me; not the whole world. I will not spend the whole day in the house doing chores and playing games on the laptop or even crocheting. I will in fact make a point of going out for the day, unsure of where yet, but out! I am also going to have dinner out at my favourite Chinese restaurant. We can’t do this often due to finances, but I made sure this year that that problem won’t get in the way. My birthday present is also going to be a little more extravagant than normal! I am treating myself to a little present too which I’ll have in a couple of days, you’ll have to watch this space if you want to know more.

SNOW!

I love the snow! Well, let me rephrase that. I love the snow as it's falling, whilst I can photograph it undisturbed and especially during Christmas. Once it's here and I have to walk through it day after day, trudging and slipping, mopping and drying floors and shoes, struggling with 4 pairs of socks and trying to pull my boots off with no help then you can keep it! When it's melting and it's all slushy and dirty it's disgusting!

But... I do love snow!
OK?

Yeah you believe me ;)

A n y w a y . . . here are a few pics I took over the last week or so.

Ok... more than a 'few'. The last one is Ethan and George playing. This was SO cute. George was purring because he could see Ethan playing in the back yard; he ADORES Ethan! Ethan then started throwing snow around and ended up throwing snowballs at the window and George was trying to catch them. He was purring and meowing... super cute!

Wool Winder

After receiving a gift certificate for Christmas (thank you very much again) I just HAD to buy for my crochet addiction. I decided on a wool winder, I was a little dubious at first as to whether it was worth it or not. I soon found out. It's GREAT!

OK, so wool is already wound right? Well yes, in a fashion. Once in a project I am forever yanking on the ball of wool to loosen some free whilst watching the rest of the ball roll off into the middle of the room so then I have to get up and fetch it. This is a real pain when you're concentrating. When I have hooks, needles, stitch markers, notepads, pens etc. balanced all around me on the sofa.

The wool winder is a marvellous piece of equipment that allows you to re-wind it. The ball of wool is then compacted and the wool then feeds from the inside of the ball instead of the outside, therefore preventing the ball taking a walk around the lounge; usually closely followed by a cat (or two in my case).

This is how the wool looks when I buy it...

This is how it looks after being rewound...

This is what I've done so far...

It's really quite addicting! I have quite a few more balls to wind yet but once they're done it's going to leave me SO much space in my storage cupboard that I might have to buy some more!! WIN WIN!

If anyone has any doubts about buying one, I would say YES! Go for it :)

Manners cost nothing

Well it's a hot honey and lemon tea day today. There are so many germs going around and working with the public doesn't help.  This has been coming on for a few days with various mild symptoms; so the medication has already commenced!

I'm am sometimes amazed and completely bewildered by the complete disregard that people have towards others. Adults that cough and sneeze without a thought of covering their nose and mouth; spreading their infectious germs. It's a scary epidemic when you think about it. Their parents either didn't try or just didn't try hard enough to teach them proper manners.  They will probably have children, if they haven't already, and do the same to them and so on and so on.

I grew up with the knowledge that manners cost nothing, how true.  It was also great to hear as a parent how well-mannered my own children were when they were young. Yet we suffer due to the ignorant and inconsiderate.

Rant over. Time for work!

Birthday owl

This lil lady was made for my boss' birthday today.
It's my favourite so far and she loved it! I especially like the big flower button I used, it's surprising what you can pick up on a market stall.

Owl-licious

I'm SO loving my owls! I think I have an addiction now. Here's my latest creation; an 18" diameter cushion
I found the pattern HERE. I've just got to find a nice plump filler for it now, so hoping my friends at 'Sew-in' will help me!

.... right, now to finish off my next owl. Brb!

Happy New Year!

My 2012 review.....

January:
  • A New Year's rebate check from the electricity company allowed us to get ourselves a new flat screen TV and an Xbox.
  • I attempted Slimming World 'again' but didn't stick to it 'again', so I'm still where I was a year ago weight-wise.
  • My 2nd eldest son, Jordan, turned 18. Also Brandon turned 14 and Ethan 10.

March:
  • A devastating month that we're still not over. Our beloved Chester was killed. We miss him all the time, he was a legend!! ♥

April:
  • I FINALLY learned to crochet, very pleased with myself and I've hardly stopped since!
  • My Godfather, Uncle Don, passed away :(
  • Baby Pollyanna was born.

May:
  • My great-nephew, Cole, had his first birthday.

June:
  • We had the Queen's Jubilee.
  • Gavin and I celebrated our 6th Wedding Anniversary ♥
  • I hadn't had a cigarette for a whole year!!
  • Baby Jake had his 1st birthday.

July:
  • Jack and George moved in with us!
  • I got a job!!

September:
  • Brandon started Lady Manners School.
  • I attempted Slimming World 'again' but didn't stick to it 'again', although I am a stone less this time!

December:
  • After 25 years of back pain, I finally found out the cause... just waiting for relief from the pain now!

There hasn't been a whole lot of good this year, it has been fairly stressful to be honest.  I'm ready for a New Year, well I was until I got up this morning, the TV is on the fritz! Hope it's not the start of the year to come :| But seriously, I am SO ready for a few positive things to come our way in 2013.

As I was looking through last year's calendar (to make this post) I became aware of the number 13. Gavin, Cole and Jake were all born on the 13th. Jack and George came to live with us on the 13th also, so I'm hoping it's going to be a good year!

Happy New Year to my followers; I hope 2013 is good to you!

Nelson the Owl

The crochet pattern that Gavin bought me for Xmas is done! So say hello to 'Nelson the Owl'.

I really like the 'ridged' look, which is done by crocheting into the back loop of each stitch rather than both. It's a little more time consuming but I guess I'd get used to it if I did it all the time.

It's a great pattern and very easy to follow; I would definitely consider buying Fresh Stitches again.

December 26, 2012

Well that's it for another year!

CHRISTMAS 2012... OVER!

Thank goodness for that! I wasn't looking forward to it, I never managed to get in the usual Christmas mood, I didn't have the greatest day so I'm well and truly glad it's over!!

I would really love to manage to save up and go out for lunch on Christmas Day next year. There is always too much stress and emotional roller-coastering at home for one reason or another. It's either that or start drinking at 7am!

On a positive note. I had some lovely presents off my wonderful husband...

I had an owl sewing basket (it's way bigger than it looks). A lovely watch. Some M&S fluffy bootie slippers. A crochet blocks book and a crochet pattern for an owl... yes another owl!

The boys all seemed happy with what they had too...no complaints at all! (Like they'd DARE!)
It was nice to see some of presents being used consistently throughout the day actually, that's when you KNOW you've got it right :)

Right, now for the saving for next year's events :| Does it ever end??!!!

I SO miss family and friends at Christmas :(

Anyway. Happy New Year everyone! I hope you have a fab 2013, I'm certainly hoping for improvements.

xx

Bahhumbug!

Well I never thought I'd see the day that I wasn't looking forward to Christmas; bit it's arrived.

I have been so organised, bought presents, wrapped the majority of them, written and posted cards early and booked a Christmas shopping delivery slot. I would normally have my decorations sorted and hung at the start of December too... but no; not this year.

We have two additions to our family this year in the form of kittens! Jack and George are nearly 7 months old now, so the hope of having a nice Christmas tree up this year completely disappeared early on. This did not help my 'Christmas mood'.  I love them to pieces but there is really no point having a tree up with lots of dangly, jangly, sparkly things on it to entice their kitten-like activities for me to then get annoyed with them.

One area of my life has been very stressful over the past month or so and I know this is the main reason I can't focus. I have no excitement, I haven't done any baking, I'm not bothered about my Christmas cheesy music that I usually blast through the house, I don't even know what we're having to eat on Christmas Day yet! I seem to have lost my Festive OOMMPH! ...and I don't like it. To top it off, I'm working all day on Christmas Eve when I usually do all my food prep!

If it wasn't for my 10 year old, it would be cancelled this year... completely! I just couldn't do it to him ♥
I'm waiting for January so it can all be over!!

The photo I took of a 'twiggy' style tree I decide to put up is far from perfect but better than nothing, and along with more lights and tinsel around the lounge we look a little bit twinkly.  It's a far cry from my usual décor though.
